Adam Vargas

Adam Vargas scored twelve tries in the 2022-23 Nationale season, the twelfth in the final. He scored fourteen more in his first season in Pro D2. Castres signed him after the second of those.

Wing at Castres, 1.80m and 80kg, born in Vénissieux on 11 August 2000.

He grew up in Lyon and started at the Lyon OU rugby school at five, staying until 2016. Then two years at CS Vienne and one at AS Villeurbanne, before Lyon noticed him a second time and gave him his first academy contract at the end of 2018.

In early 2020 he spent a fortnight in Stellenbosch on a France Under-20 sevens camp.

The senior career started away from the top flight. He joined Valence Romans Drôme Rugby for 2021-22 and was a first-choice wing almost immediately. They won the Nationale title in 2023 and went up, and he extended for two seasons before the regular campaign had even finished.

His first Pro D2 year brought the fourteen tries and a club that stayed up. Two seasons in the third tier and two in the second had made him a senior figure at 24, and Top 14 clubs came for him in the 2025 off-season. Castres confirmed him that June, on two years.

At 80kg he is among the lightest wings in the division, in an era when the position is played by men twenty kilos heavier. Twenty-six tries in two promotions is the argument for him, and this season is the first test of whether it carries up a level.
