We Talk Rugby Privacy Policy

At We Talk Rugby (accessible from https://wetalkrugby.com), one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by We Talk Rugby and how we use it.

1. Log Files

We Talk Rugby follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this as a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

2. Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, We Talk Rugby uses “cookies”. These cookies are used to store information including visitors’ preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users’ experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information.

3. Google DoubleClick DART Cookie

Google is one of a third-party vendor on our site. It also uses cookies, known as DART cookies, to serve ads to our site visitors based upon their visit to wetalkrugby.com and other sites on the internet. 7. Children’s Information

Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.

We Talk Rugby does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.

9. Comments, Accounts and Community

What we collect when you comment

Your name (or display name), your email address, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent string. We also store what you wrote and which article you wrote it on.

What is public

Your name, your comment, the time you posted, and any nation or club badge you have chosen. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your IP address is never shown publicly.

Why we need it

The email address lets us recognise you when you come back and, if you ask for it, notify you when someone replies. The IP address and user agent are kept to stop spam and to enforce bans — without them, anyone we remove could return immediately.

Accounts

You can comment without an account. If you sign in with Google, we store your display name, email address, profile picture URL, and the nation and club you choose. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture — nothing else. We do not receive your password and we cannot access anything else in your Google account.

Spam prevention

Comment submissions are checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, which helps us tell people from bots. Turnstile does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Newsletter consent

The newsletter checkbox on the comment form is separate, unticked by default, and never required. Whether you tick it or not, we record the exact wording shown to you, the time, your IP address and the page you were on. That record is our proof that consent was freely given, and it is equally a record if you declined. Leaving the box unticked has no effect on your comment.

How long we keep it

  • Comments are kept for as long as the article is published, because a comment thread without its comments is not a record of anything.
  • Account data is kept until you delete your account.
  • Consent records are kept for as long as you are subscribed, and for 3 years afterwards, as evidence that consent was lawfully given.
  • Spam and banned-user records (email address and IP address) are kept for 2 years, so that bans remain enforceable.

Legal basis

We rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK/EU GDPR) to publish and moderate comments, prevent spam and enforce bans — running a usable comment section is not possible otherwise, and the data involved is the minimum needed to do it. We rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your account removes your personal data; we may keep the text of your comments with the name replaced by “Anonymous”, so that other people’s replies still make sense.

Who we share it with

Nobody, other than the services that make the site work: our hosting provider, Cloudflare for spam prevention, and Google if you choose to sign in with Google. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.
