Ange Capuozzo

Ange Capuozzo announced himself by winning a Test match in Cardiff on debut weekend, and Italian rugby has been a slightly different proposition since.

He is small, quick and almost impossible to line up. The counter-attack is the signature — he takes the ball from deep and beats the first two defenders before the chase has organised, which is a skill that does not depend on the quality of the team around him.

That matters, because Italy have not always been able to give him good ball. He creates from bad ball, which is rarer and more valuable.

The aerial contest is the obvious target. Opposition kicking games go up above him and Italy have had to structure their back field around it.

He plays for one of the strongest clubs in Europe, which has raised the level of everything around his best attribute. For Italy he remains the player opponents plan for first.
