About Jean Baptiste Gros
He won the junior world championship in 2018 and again in 2019, and a Grand Slam with France three years later.
Jean-Baptiste Gros won the junior world championship in 2018 and again in 2019. Fabien Galthié, who was coaching his club when he gave him a debut at eighteen, later gave him his first France cap. He has a Grand Slam and two Six Nations titles.
Loosehead prop at Toulon, 1.86m and 112kg, and 27 years old.
Born in Arles and raised in Tarascon, he found the game at ten with the local entente, spent a season at Châteaurenard, and came through the regional centre at Hyères while playing for Provence. France won the under-18 European title with him in 2017, beating Georgia in the final at Quimper.
His league debut came on 23 December 2017, off the bench against Oyonnax, and was his only match of that season. The following year he took nineteen matches from a front row that also held Florian Fresia, Xavier Chiocci and Bruce Devaux, and by 2019-20 the shirt was his.
France capped him in Cardiff in October 2020, on for the injured Cyril Baille, and he played three matches of that Six Nations and four of the next. The Grand Slam followed in 2022 and a second title in 2025.
The 2020 Challenge Cup final against Bristol brought a start alongside Anthony Étrillard and Beka Gigashvili and a defeat, and he won the same competition with the club in 2023. Between those two came a four-year contract that kept him on the coast through his best years.
A powerful, low scrummaging loosehead who has spent his entire Top 14 career at one club and is among the more capped French props of his generation.
