Jeremy Paul Toevalu

Jérémy Toevalu was not supposed to play senior rugby in 2025-26. His club had planned a gradual introduction and then lost several hookers to injury at once, which is how a twenty-year-old came to make his first appearances in the French top flight.

Note on his current club: Toevalu is still listed in Toulon‘s squad data. He was loaned to FC Grenoble in Pro D2 in March 2026.

Hooker, 1.85m and 115kg, and 21 years old.

Born in Metz, he is of Wallisian descent by way of New Caledonia. His uncle Soane Toevalu played professionally too. The rugby started at Draguignan, in the Var, and the Toulon academy took him in 2019, at fourteen.

He came through the junior grades into the under-23 side and was a losing finalist in the national under-23 championship at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The loan that followed is the sensible half of the story. Being thrown into a top-flight front row at twenty because three men above you are injured teaches a hooker very little; a full season of second-division rugby, where he went in March 2026 to cover an absence of their own, teaches him a great deal more.

The family connection is the other thing worth noting. Wallis and Futuna, by way of New Caledonia, has sent a striking number of forwards into French professional rugby relative to its size, and the Toevalus are one of the families that keeps doing it.

No honours yet beyond the junior final, and a Top 14 career that began by accident. What the next two seasons decide is whether the scrum and the throw catch up with the circumstances that launched him.
