About Jérémy Sinzelle
Jérémy Sinzelle started a match in every back-line position during the 2017-18 season. Wing, centre, full-back, fly-half, scrum-half: the whole line. Very few players in France have been asked to do that, and fewer have been trusted with it.
Utility back at Toulon, 1.84m and 98kg, and 36 years old.
Born in Nice, he came through the national centre in 2008-09 and won a European under-18 title in the same period. His junior honours came on this coast, a national cadet title in 2007 and a Reichel championship in 2010, and he was a Challenge Cup finalist in the latter year.
Stade Français is where the senior career took shape, in a squad containing Sergio Parisse, Pascal Papé, Julien Dupuy and Morné Steyn. He was a French champion on 13 June 2015, beating Clermont 12-6 in the Top 14 final, and won the Challenge Cup with the same club two years later.
La Rochelle signed him on three years in 2017 and got the most out of him. A Challenge Cup final in 2019, a French championship final in 2021, and then the European Cup on 28 May 2022, beaten Leinster 24-21 at the Vélodrome in Marseille.
He returned to the club that raised him for the 2022-23 season, on three years, and won a second Challenge Cup with them in 2023.
The comparison usually made is with Matt Giteau or Johan Goosen: a back who is good enough everywhere to be first choice nowhere, and worth more to a squad than most players who are.
