Lucas Tauzin

In the 2019 European Cup quarter-final against Racing 92, Lucas Tauzin was a late addition to the Toulouse team and threw an offload after contact that produced what was widely called the best try of that round. Six weeks later he tore a pectoral tendon and missed the rest of a season Toulouse finished as champions.

Note on his current club: Tauzin is still listed in Clermont‘s squad data. He was not retained after two seasons and joined FC Grenoble in Pro D2 for 2026-27.

A wing who can play centre, 1.87m and 94kg, out of a rugby family in the Landes: his father Eric played at Saint-Sever, his uncle Frédéric at Dax. He started with the coquelets at Saint-Sever, moved to Stade Montois, entered the pôle espoirs in 2015 and first played for France Under-20s in May 2017.

Toulouse took him and gave him his first senior minutes in 2017-18, the same season he became a junior world champion. That France Under-20 side won the Six Nations and the World Championship back to back, and Tauzin started throughout.

The following year was the one that suggested more. Six straight starts, five tries, a step-and-go against La Rochelle and the Racing offload. In February 2020, during the Six Nations, he was named in an extended France squad. He never won a cap.

He won four French championships with Toulouse — 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 — and played French Barbarians against Fiji in Lille in November 2022. He signed a two-year deal at Clermont from 2024-25.

Footwork rather than pure gas, and the honours list flatters a career that has mostly been spent as a squad player at a club that wins things. Grenoble should give him the ball more often than Toulouse or Clermont ever did.
