Thomas Carol

Thomas Carol ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on the final day of the 2023-24 season, against Perpignan, and did not play again for fourteen months. The comeback ran through a sevens tournament in August 2025, and a Champions Cup start that December.

Note on his current club: Carol is still listed in Pau‘s squad data. He was not retained after the 2025-26 season and signed a two-year contract with the Stade Aurillacois in July 2026.

Full-back or wing, 1.79m and 85kg, and 25 years old.

Born in Paris to a Toulouse family, with a grandfather who played for Stade Toulousain, he started at Boulogne-Billancourt and reached the Racing 92 rugby school by a roundabout route involving a dispute over training grounds.

The choice of university decided the rest. Looking for an engineering school that would let him keep playing, he was accepted by one in La Rochelle, joined the club there, and was noticed by Sébastien Piqueronies. He ended up studying at EDHEC and signing for Pau in 2021.

The senior debut came against Stade Toulousain that October, and he built up steadily: eleven league matches in the first season, a European try in the second, and starts in both competitions in the third despite Jack Maddocks and Théo Attissogbé ahead of him. A first professional contract followed in January 2024, four months before the knee.

The France sevens side used him from November 2022, across eight World Series legs, and in an Olympic preparation camp in 2024. A quick, two-footed back dropping to the second division at 25 after a Top 14 career interrupted at the worst possible point.
