Thomas Vincent

Thomas Vincent took the unglamorous route. Nine years of it: an academy at Agen, a first-team place that never quite became permanent, a loan to the second division, then a relegation, and finally a move at 25 that put him in a French championship final squad.

Note on his current club: Vincent is still listed in Montpellier‘s squad data. He signed a two-year contract with Oyonnax Rugby in 2026, alongside his teammate Thomas Darmon.

Fly-half, 1.85m and 82kg, and 27 years old.

Monflanquin in the Lot-et-Garonne is where he learned the game. Agen took him in 2015, at sixteen, and he came through the junior sides into the professional squad, playing his first top-flight matches at fly-half in 2017-18.

Game time was the problem, and the loan to Aurillac for the 2020-21 Pro D2 season was the answer. Returning to an Agen side that had been relegated in the meantime, he made a poor start and then won the number ten shirt outright.

The French press reported contact with Montpellier in May 2024 and the club confirmed him that July. His two seasons in the Top 14 ended with a losing championship final against Stade Toulousain, and with a move to Oyonnax alongside Thomas Darmon.

Nothing about that record is glamorous and all of it is useful. A club carrying two established fly-halves still needs a third who can be dropped into a European tie in October and a relegation scrap in May, and that is the job he has done for two seasons.

A goal-kicking ten who organises rather than attacks the line, and a squad player who rarely gets the credit for it.
