Tyler Duguid

Tyler Duguid won national titles in Greco-Roman wrestling at the University of Alberta, played Canadian football for the same institution, and represented Canada at three age-grade levels. In July 2025 he won his first cap for France, against New Zealand.

He locks the scrum for Montpellier, is 2.01m and 124kg, and is 25.

Edmonton is his home city and the Nor’Westers club gave him the game at about ten. He captained the rugby side at Harry Ainlay high school, played back row, prop and lock before settling on the second row, and spent a few months of 2018 playing in New Zealand.

Narbonne brought him to France in the summer of 2019 and the Montpellier academy took him a year later. His first professional appearance came in a Challenge Cup semi-final against Bath in May 2021, and he collected a winner’s medal in that final off the bench against Leicester.

The championship of 2022 was won without him playing in the Top 14 final. Absences to Paul Willemse and Bastien Chalureau opened the rotation the following season, and he has been a regular since, with twenty-six appearances and twenty starts in 2024-25 and a contract to 2027.

He announced at the start of that season that he intended to play for France rather than Canada, received his passport during it, started for France A against England in a 26-24 win, and was on the plane to New Zealand within weeks.

The family is spread across the game: his brother Kaden plays in France, his sister Abby in England, and his uncles John and Luke Tait were Canada internationals.
