Vincent Giudicelli

Vincent Giudicelli has spent his career moving to find a shirt. He left Montpellier because they had signed Luke Cowan-Dickie to go with Brandon Paenga-Amosa and Curtis Langdon, which is three hookers for one place.

Hooker, 1.84m and 102kg, born in Montpellier on 25 June 1997, of Corsican family. His brother Mathieu also plays.

Montpellier trained him, but he made his professional debut at Lyon, and returned to his home club in June 2017 after a single season in the Rhône.

His chance came in 2018-19, at 21, when Bismarck du Plessis was injured. He played nineteen matches, six of them in Europe, and Montpellier extended him to 2023 at the end of it.

The extension did not translate into games. He moved to Bayonne for 2023-24, on a deal to 2026, specifically to play, and left for the second division when that ran out.

He was in the squad for both of Montpellier’s biggest matches of the era without being the man who started them, which is the position he has occupied almost everywhere.

He won the Crabos title with Montpellier in 2015, lost the Top 14 final with them in 2018 and won it in 2022.

A French champion at 24 who has never held a first-choice shirt for long. Hooker is the most crowded position in the French league and his record is a fair illustration of what that does to a good player who is not quite an international.
