Sky Stadium holds 34,500 and sits on reclaimed land beside Wellington’s harbour, a ten-minute walk from the railway station. It is the Hurricanes’ home ground.
Sky Stadium capacity
The bowl seats 34,500. Its circular concrete design and exposed position earned it the nickname the Cake Tin, which has long since replaced whatever the sponsor of the day is calling it.
Conditions
Wellington’s wind is the defining variable. The stadium’s open bowl offers little shelter, and kickers routinely lose distance and accuracy on the harbour side.
Who plays at Sky Stadium
The Hurricanes play Super Rugby Pacific fixtures here and the All Blacks use it for Tests, most often in the Rugby Championship window.
