Dylan Cretin

Fabien Galthié called Dylan Cretin into his first France squad in 2020. Cretin hurt an ankle in training and had to leave before the opening match of the Six Nations.

Flanker at Lyon, 1.95m and 101kg. He is tall for the position, which makes him a lineout option as well as a defender.

He was developed at RC Annemasse and has studied at EM Lyon Business School throughout his career.

France Under-20s used him heavily in a single season: seven matches across the 2017 Six Nations and that year’s junior world championship, and then nothing more at that level.

He came back into the senior group for the third match of the 2020 tournament and was capped in Cardiff against Wales on 22 October. His first international try came against Italy on 6 February 2021. He played the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Six Nations and won the Grand Slam in the last of them.

He was recalled in January 2023, named in a 23-man training group that summer, and included in the 42 players Galthié assembled to prepare for the 2023 World Cup. He did not make the final squad. He has twenty caps.

With Lyon he won the Challenge Cup in 2022, and was in the side beaten in the 2025 final.

A tall, mobile blindside in a French back row that has been extraordinarily deep for a decade. Twenty caps and a Grand Slam medal in that company is a substantial career, and the absence since 2023 says more about the competition for the shirt than about the player.
