About Emmanuel Meafou
Emmanuel Meafou is 203cm and reportedly around 145kg, which makes him one of the largest players in professional rugby and by some distance the largest in a France shirt.
He was born in Auckland to Samoan parents, played age-grade rugby in Australia with the Queensland Reds system, and moved to Toulouse — where he served the residency period and became French-qualified, a process that took long enough to become its own storyline.
The size is the obvious thing and the least interesting. What made Toulouse build around him is that he moves well for it: a genuine lineout option, a carrier who is almost impossible to stop one-on-one, and mobile enough to be used in the wider channels rather than only in the tight.
He was part of the Toulouse side that won the Champions Cup and Top 14, and made his France debut in the 2024 Six Nations.
His qualification was contested and discussed at length in the French press. The rugby has settled the argument.
He was born in 1998. France’s second row for the 2027 cycle is being built around him and Thibaud Flament.
