Guillaume Martocq

On 11 October 2025 Guillaume Martocq ruptured a posterior cruciate ligament against Pau. He was back playing on 27 December, against Stade Français, a little over two months later.

He is a centre at Bayonne, 1.83m and 94kg, and has been at the club since he was sixteen.

He started at six at the rugby school in Sauveterre-de-Béarn and joined the Bayonne academy in 2015 as a cadet, extending his academy contract in December 2017.

His debut came on 26 August 2018, on at half-time for Peyo Muscarditz against Mont-de-Marsan in Pro D2. It was his only match that season. France Under-20s called him into a Six Nations preparation squad that November, and in September 2019 he played for the France sevens side at the Oktoberfest Sevens. He got one more appearance that year, in the Challenge Cup against the Scarlets.

Bayonne loaned him to Carcassonne for two seasons in 2020. That is where he became a player: 51 matches and seven tries.

He came back for 2022-23 and made his Top 14 debut on 3 September at Mayol, on for Eneriko Buliruarua. In the first half of 2023-24 he was Grégory Patat’s most-used centre, twelve matches and nine starts, 684 minutes.

He extended to June 2027 in November 2024.

The 2024-25 season started with a sprain that cost him the opening match against Perpignan, and he was back on the teamsheet a week later against Pau. That is the pattern with him: something goes, and he is back sooner than the calendar says he should be.

A durable, unshowy midfielder who was good enough to keep out better-paid signings for half a season. The knee is the thing to watch, because posterior cruciate injuries rarely stay quiet.
