Janick Tarrit

Janick Tarrit was made captain of a professional club in the spring of 2021, at twenty-two, while still completing an engineering degree at the ISAT in Nevers. The following season he led that club to fourth place and a play-off semi-final, the best it had managed.

Hooker at Racing 92, 1.83m and 100kg, and 27 years old.

Belleville Cosne gave him the game and the Nevers academy took him in 2016. He was in the professional squad by 2018 and a fixture of it within two years, in a division that does not usually accommodate a player studying full-time alongside it.

Racing signed a three-year pre-contract with him during that captaincy season and confirmed it in June 2022. He arrived to replace Teddy Baubigny, who had gone to Toulon, and shared the position with Camille Chat and Peniami Narisia. His first try for the club came against Leinster at the Aviva Stadium in a Champions Cup match.

France named him in a squad for the first time in June 2024, in the thirty-two picked for the tour of Argentina, and he played the uncapped match against Uruguay that July for the development side.

In December 2024 the club dropped him and Chat from the squad after a night out that ended with neither reporting for training. He was brought back in January, at which point Chat left by mutual agreement, and he signed a new contract to 2028 in the same month.

No honours to date, a decade of professional rugby, and a Top 14 contract that runs to his thirtieth birthday.
