Joris Segonds

Joris Segonds was a prop. Aurillac moved him to fly-half when he arrived there at fifteen, and eight years later he finished as the Top 14‘s leading scorer with 245 points, ahead of Finn Russell and Antoine Hastoy.

He plays for Bayonne, is 1.80m and 89kg, and signed a five-year deal in April 2024 that runs from 2024-25.

He is from Decazeville in the Aveyron, learnt the game at Rugby Bassin Ouest Aveyron and spent ten years at SC Decazeville before Aurillac. He played three seasons in their first team and was one of its leaders by the end — 28 matches in 2018-19, 23 of them starts.

Stade Français signed him at 22 on a three-year deal in June 2019. He had never played for a France age-grade side, and in early 2020 the Spanish federation made an approach through his Stade Français teammate Thierry Futeu. He stayed French.

The 2023 scoring record came in a season Stade Français lost their play-off to Racing 92.

France took a long time. Fabien Galthié took him to Argentina in the summer of 2024, in a party of thirty-two assembled almost entirely from uncapped players, and played an uncapped match against Uruguay on 10 July. A year later he was in the thirty-seven for New Zealand, and won his first official cap against the All Blacks on 5 July 2025. He has two, both starts.

A goal-kicker first. Bayonne’s points come off his boot, and a five-year contract at 29 says the club expects that to be true until he is well into his thirties.
