About Max Jorgensen

Max Jorgensen was Australian rugby’s most-discussed teenager for two years before he had played a full professional season, and the reason was straightforward: he was very obviously going to be good.

He is genuinely quick — one of the fastest players in Australian rugby — and comfortable at both fullback and wing. Rugby league clubs pursued him hard, and his decision to stay in union was treated as a national story rather than a transfer.

A serious knee injury cost him what would have been his breakthrough season, including a World Cup he had been talked about for at 18. He came back and picked up where he had left off.

He was born in 2004, which makes a home World Cup in 2027 arrive when he is 23 — young for a Test back three but not remotely young for a finisher.

His father Peter also played for the Wallabies.

Australia have been short of genuine try-scoring threats for the better part of a decade. He is the most convincing one they have produced in that time.
