Tom Levéque

Only Herschel Jantjies, at 77kg, weighs less than Tom Levéque in the Bayonne squad. Jantjies is a South Africa international scrum-half of 1.64m. Levéque is 1.84m and 80kg, which is a very different distribution of the same weight.

He was born on 16 March 2006 and is listed among the backs.

That combination of height and weight is unusual in professional rugby and points to a back-three player still filling out rather than a finished one.

His career has not been documented. No encyclopedia has written him up, no age-group cap is recorded for him, and the club’s published summaries do not mention him.

Eighty kilos is a genuine constraint in the Top 14, where wings weigh over a hundred and the aerial contest decides most back-three selections. Almost every player who arrives at that weight and stays adds ten to fifteen kilos in his early twenties.
