Tom Raffy

In 2023-24 Tom Raffy was Brive’s leading scorer with 130 points in twenty-four matches, kicking at 75.4 per cent. He started thirteen of them. He has never managed to make the No. 10 shirt his own at any club, in any season, and that is the puzzle of him.

Note on his current club: Raffy is listed in Clermont‘s squad data. He was there on a one-year loan for 2025-26 while contracted to Brive until 2028, and has been loaned again for 2026-27, to CA Périgueux in Nationale.

He is a fly-half, 1.79m and 76kg, born in Saint-Céré in the Lot, where he started playing in 2009.

Brive took him in 2018. He was billeted with the Carbonneau family — Philippe, the former France scrum-half, and his son Léo, the same age as Raffy, who became a close friend — and found Mathis Ferté there too, from the Lot selection. He signed his first academy contract in March 2022 and played for France Under-18s alongside Carbonneau that spring.

His Top 14 debut came at eighteen, on 24 September 2022, when Enzo Hervé was injured early against Castres. He started against Toulon two weeks later and scored his first professional try in the Challenge Cup against Connacht. In the 2023 Under-20 Six Nations he started the first two rounds, forming a half-back pairing with Carbonneau against Ireland.

Brive finished bottom and went down. In Pro D2 he played a lot early on, was used twice at full-back, and lost the shirt to Jackson Garden-Bachop. He scored sixteen points in a 38-13 win over Montauban in January 2024, and 26 in a play-off defeat to Béziers that kept Brive up.

2024-25 was thinner: one early start, then espoirs rugby, a recall in November when Curwin Bosch got hurt, a difficult first half, and back out again.

A good, accurate kicker who has spent four seasons behind somebody. Périgueux is a chance to simply play.
