Principality Stadium holds 74,500 and stands in the middle of Cardiff, on the north bank of the Taff. Almost uniquely for a stadium of its size, it is a five-minute walk from the city’s main shopping streets.
Principality Stadium capacity
Capacity is 74,500. It opened in 1999 as the Millennium Stadium, replacing the National Stadium on the same Cardiff Arms Park site, and was renamed in 2016.
The roof
It was the first stadium in Britain with a fully retractable roof. Wales generally want it closed and visiting sides generally do not, and the decision has become a recurring pre-match argument in the Six Nations.
Who plays at Principality Stadium
Wales play home Six Nations and autumn Tests here. Cardiff Rugby’s regular home is the smaller Cardiff Arms Park next door.
