About Lucas Zamora

He captained France Under-18s to a 28-5 win over England, and was European university sevens player of the tournament. He is 1.70m.

Lucas Zamora is 1.70m and 80kg, which makes him the smallest man in the Clermont squad by some distance. He was a fly-half who could kick before La Rochelle moved him to scrum-half at Crabos level, where he captained the side.

He is from Royan in the Charente-Maritime, started playing at four, joined Royan Saujon in 2010 and moved to La Rochelle in 2018. He took his baccalauréat and then studied technical and commercial negotiation at the school attached to the club.

In March 2022 the FFR put him in the Générations Bleues camp, which gathers the three hundred best players born in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He came out of it as France Under-18 captain, and led them to a 28-5 win over England.

His professional debut came a few weeks after his eighteenth birthday, on for Thomas Berjon late against Bordeaux-Bègles, with Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Jules Le Bail both unavailable. Four Top 14 appearances that season, all off the bench.

In September 2023 he won the European university sevens championship with La Rochelle — the university’s first European title in any sport — and was named player of the tournament. He played two Under-20 Six Nations matches in 2024, called up mid-tournament to replace Léo Carbonneau, and scored against Italy.

La Rochelle loaned him to Soyaux Angoulême in Pro D2 for 2024-25 to get him playing. He started the opening round at Aurillac and scored in a 31-24 win, started again the following week, and then largely sat on the bench. When Teddy Iribaren left La Rochelle in January there was talk of recalling him early. He stayed.

In April 2025 he agreed a three-year deal with Clermont.

He plays with speed rather than size and he can kick, which is not true of every No. 9. In a squad where Sébastien Bézy has moved on, the opening is real.
