About Timeo Frier

France Under-20s beat England 31-28 in 2026 to win their first Grand Slam since 2014. Timéo Frier scored in it. He was eighteen, and it was his fifth cap at that level.

He plays centre and wing for Clermont, and is 1.88m and 95kg.

Frier is from Bourgoin-Jallieu, in the Isère, and started at CS Bourgoin-Jallieu at five or six, where his father Julien played as a flanker and his older brother Gabin played too. In 2024 he won the national under-18 championship with the club, alongside Axel Guillaud, taking CSBJ back up to the Crabos division.

He left in the summer of 2025 for Clermont, a club he had supported since he was a child and which is coached by Christophe Urios, his father’s old coach at Bourgoin.

The first season went quickly. A Top 14 debut off the bench on the wing against Bayonne in October, then three Champions Cup matches, two of them starts at centre. Against Sale he made four line breaks, beat four defenders and carried for 79 metres.

France picked him for the 2026 Under-20 Six Nations alongside five Clermont teammates. Left out of the opening round, he played the remaining four. In his first, against Wales, he carried 51 metres and beat five defenders. He is a genuine defender too, with a real jackal threat at the breakdown, which is rarer in a young centre than the attacking numbers.

He signed an extension at the end of the season, and on 6 June 2026 won the espoirs championship with Clermont, beating Toulouse 26-21. He was called up for the Junior World Championship on 19 June, broke a hand on the opening day and was replaced by Adrien Drault. France reached the final without him.

One of the two or three most interesting teenagers in the club. Watch how often Urios uses him at 13 rather than on the wing.
