The ground seats 25,600 after the 2008 redevelopment that added two new stands. Before that it held around 13,000, much of it terracing.

The unbeaten record

Munster went unbeaten at Thomond Park in the Heineken Cup from the competition’s start in 1995 until Leicester won there in January 2007 — twelve years and 27 matches.

Beating the All Blacks

Munster beat New Zealand 12-0 at Thomond Park on 31 October 1978, the only time a New Zealand touring side has lost to an Irish provincial team.

The silence

Thomond’s crowd falls completely silent for place kicks, at both ends. It is the ground’s best-known custom and visiting kickers routinely mention it.
