About Filo Tiatia

Filo Tiatia is the head coach of Dragons RFC, appointed permanently in February 2025 on a multi-year contract after three months as interim.

Born in Wellington in June 1971, he was a back-row forward for Wellington and the Hurricanes, spent four seasons at Toyota Verblitz in Japan, and made 99 appearances for the Ospreys. He won two All Blacks caps in 2000 and scored a try in each of them.

Coaching

He started with the Ospreys as LV= Cup head coach in 2011, then moved to Japan as forwards coach and later head coach at Toyota Verblitz, and worked with the Japan national side in 2013. He was head coach of the Sunwolves in Super Rugby from 2016, forwards coach at Auckland from 2018 to 2021 — winning the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership in 2018 — and worked with Moana Pasifika. He joined the Dragons as defence coach in May 2024 and stepped up that November.
