About George Skivington

George Skivington is the head coach of Gloucester Rugby. He has been at Kingsholm since July 2020 and held the Director of Rugby title from September 2023, before reverting to head coach on 1 March 2026 when Chris Boyd arrived as Technical Director and Rob Burgess as General Manager for Rugby.

The change was one he had pushed for publicly, having said the Director of Rugby duties were pulling him away from hands-on coaching.

Born in Warrington in December 1982, he was a lock for London Wasps, Leicester Tigers and London Irish, where he was club captain. He was capped by England Saxons and called into the 2011 Six Nations squad as injury cover but never won a full cap, retiring in 2016 with a shoulder injury.

Coaching

He was an assistant at Ealing Trailfinders during their National 1 promotion, worked with Samoa at the 2015 World Cup, and was forwards coach at London Irish from 2016 to 2020. He has also been England A head coach since January 2024.

Style, and the streakiness

A forwards and set-piece coach at heart — maul, lineout drive and physical confrontation — and a heavy backer of academy graduates. His Gloucester have been genuinely streaky: they own the worst losing run in Premiership history, nine straight in 2023–24, and in the same period won the club’s first trophy in nine years, the 2024 Premiership Rugby Cup.
