About Jason Holland

Jason Holland becomes head coach of the Blues for the 2027 season, announced in March 2025 on a three-year deal. He has not yet coached a match in the role — through 2026 he was an assistant at the Hurricanes, running the attack under Clark Laidlaw, and was on the staff that won the title.

Born in August 1972, he was a centre and second five-eighth who made his career at Munster, playing 102 times for the province between 1999 and 2008. He appeared in the 2000 and 2002 Heineken Cup finals, kicking a drop goal in the first of them. He represented Ireland A but was never capped.

Coaching

He was Munster’s backs coach from 2008, then an assistant at Canterbury before joining the Hurricanes, becoming head coach in December 2019 and holding the role through 2023. He was an All Blacks assistant under Scott Robertson from 2024, then returned to the Hurricanes for 2026 — Laidlaw citing his experience and knowledge of the attacking game.
