Marco Bortolami took interim charge of Georgia in January 2026, appointed within weeks of leaving Sale Sharks and following Richard Cockerill’s departure. He led the Lelos through the 2026 Rugby Europe Championship, where they reached the final and lost to Portugal, and handed over in June when Pierre-Henry Broncan was able to take up the permanent role. Bortolami remained with the coaching group as forwards coach. A former Italy lock and captain with more than a hundred caps, he had previously coached Benetton and Sale.
