About Pierre-Henry Broncan

Pierre-Henry Broncan is the head coach of Georgia, the French coach appointed in 2026 to take the Lelos through to the World Cup in Australia.

Pierre-Henry Broncan is the head coach of Georgia, appointed in January 2026 on a two-year contract running through the 2027 Rugby World Cup and taking full charge from July 2026.

Born in Auch in May 1974, he was a scrum-half who played entirely in French domestic rugby without an international cap, turning out for Lombez-Samatan, FC Auch, Montauban, Beziers and Stade Montois. He won a Pro D2 title as a player with Montauban in 2001.

A long climb through French rugby

Broncan started coaching at Blagnac in 2006, taking the club up to Pro D2, then worked at Auch, Aurillac, Colomiers — whom he led to promotion in 2012 — and Tarbes. He moved into recruitment and analysis at Bordeaux-Begles and then Stade Toulousain, where he was head of recruitment and defence coach between 2015 and 2018, before a spell at Bath. He was head coach at Castres, reaching the 2022 Top 14 final, worked briefly with Australia in 2023, and was sporting manager at CA Brive until his Georgia move.

Georgia

He replaced Richard Cockerill, with Marco Bortolami covering as interim head coach until Broncan’s Brive contract expired in June. Bortolami has stayed on as forwards coach. Broncan’s brief is to convert Georgia’s long-standing forward power into results against tier-one opposition.

Style

He is a defence and detail coach by background with an unusually strong record in recruitment and talent identification, and is known for methodical squad building rather than an expansive attacking philosophy.

As a player Scrum-half. Lombez-Samatan, FC Auch, Montauban, Beziers and Stade Montois. Never capped, and won a Pro D2 title as a player with Montauban in 2001.
