Steve Tandy was announced as Wales head coach on 21 July 2025 and formally took charge on 1 September that year, arriving from Scotland’s coaching staff where he had been defence coach. He is the permanent successor to Warren Gatland, whose second spell in charge ended in February 2025 midway through the Six Nations after a run of fourteen consecutive defeats, with Matt Sherratt taking the side on an interim basis for the remainder of that campaign. A former Ospreys flanker, Tandy had previously been head coach at the same region before moving into international coaching.
