About Ivan van Rooyen

Ivan van Rooyen has been Lions head coach since 2019, when he took over from Swys de Bruin, making him one of the longest-serving coaches in South African professional rugby. He came through the Lions system as a conditioning and forwards specialist before stepping up, and has overseen the franchise through the move from Super Rugby into the United Rugby Championship. He was recognised at the URC awards in 2026.
