About Senirusi Seruvakula
Senirusi Seruvakula is the acting head coach of Fiji, taking charge in April 2026 after the Fiji Rugby Union parted company with Mick Byrne. He is one of the most successful coaches to have worked entirely within Fijian rugby.
Born in Suva in November 1969, he was a flanker who won a single cap for Fiji, against Samoa in 2002, after club rugby with Brothers in Brisbane, DeA Tigers in Hong Kong and Chateauneuf-du-Pape in France.
Domestic pedigree
Seruvakula built his reputation at home. He coached Naitasiri to Skipper Cup titles, led the Fijian Drua to the National Rugby Championship title in 2018 in the competition’s Australian format, and coached Fijiana Drua to the inaugural Super W title in 2022 alongside the Oceania Women’s Championship. He has also worked with the Fiji Warriors and served within the national setup as an assistant.
The current role
His appointment is explicitly an acting one. Fiji Rugby confirmed in August 2026 that he continues in the role through the Pacific Nations Cup while the union runs its recruitment for a permanent head coach ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

He is known for getting more out of home-based players than most, and for pairing Fiji’s natural offloading game with the set-piece discipline that has historically been the side’s weakness at Test level.
